Bronc Rider Cowboys Up

Beaver Creek, Colorado July 2012, Summer Rodeo at Traer Creek.  When the going gets tough, cowboy up …………!  Without question, one of the more difficult action events photographers shoot are Rodeos and their fast paced, erratic, disciplines like bareback ridding.  This particular image is cropped in such a way because I simply could not keep up with the animal, failing to capture, the horse’s head while also focusing in on the cowboy’s superhuman feat.  Though purposely out of focus, the telling facial expressions of the background onlookers communicates everyone’s amazement in the extreme effort this contestant exhibited while attempting to complete the requisite eight second ride.  By the way, these animals are generally very well taken care of and appreciated within the Rodeo world; very few of these animals are found to be neglected, malnourished, or otherwise abused- unlike so many of their unfortunate brethren who have the regrettable misfortune of falling out of favor from their part-timer owners.
