Korbel American Ski Classic Grit
Vail, Colorado March 2012, Korbel American Ski Classic. The intensity of this racer’s “grit” is clearly expressed in this capture, even when zooming by at speeds exceeding 40 mph. Capturing details in bright light, on snow-covered mountains, at fast speeds, and when the subject/detail (his teeth) itself is white can be a daunting task for any photographer. The use of a good circular polarized filter often holds the key and determines one’s success or failure. Note, the crisp colors and great contrast of this image are only possible because of my use of such a filter. Capturing the detail of the racers grit further communicates to the viewer the real effort and intensity of the racer and that this image otherwise freezes in time.
